VÖLKEL HSSE VAP White ring taps
In addition to the high-quality HSSE base material, the white ring taps are also steam tempered. This involves heat treatment of the finished tool, which creates a layer of iron oxide on the surface of the tap.
Advantages: The iron oxide layer improves the adhesion of coolants and lubricants to the tap, reduces friction and ensures a continuous lubricating film. This prevents cold welding, improves the performance of the taps and extends their service life.
Taps for stainless steel
With the steam tempered HSSE tap, you can cut threads in INOX materials with a tensile strength of up to 850 N/mm². It is also possible to machine high-alloy chromium-nickel steels and titanium alloys. When cutting threads, it is essential to use a lubricant suitable for stainless steel, such as VÖLKEL cutting oil N3S.
The materials table contains some examples of application with material numbers and tensile strength which are suitable to cut with the VÖLKEL HSSE VAP white ring machine taps.

Material number: The material number is a standardised, unique identifier for technical materials for a reliable identification. The material number consists of a main group number, separated by a dot from the four-digit grade number. The main group indicates the main material group (e.g. a 1 for steels). The subsequent grade number designates the exact material grade within the main group and also includes properties such as alloy type (chemical composition of the material).
Example (simply explained): 1.4404 (main group 1 = steel / grade number 4404 = corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steel = also known under the designations AISI 316L (V4A) or X2CrNiMo17-12-2. This stainless steel is characterised by a high molybdenum content (approx. 2% to 2.5%), which gives it significantly improved corrosion resistance against acids and chloride-containing media. Thanks to its low carbon content, it is also resistant to intergranular corrosion, easy to weld and versatile in use. X2CrNiMo17-12-2 stainless steel has excellent resistance to reducing acids, halogen-containing agents and pitting corrosion, particularly due to the addition of molybdenum.
