Green ring (PM-TiN)

VÖLKEL Green ring HSSE PM-TiN taps

The green ring machine taps made from HSSE PM-TiN combine the outstanding properties of powder metallurgical high-speed steel (PM) with a precise cutting geometry and TiN coating. The result is a high-quality tap with increased fracture resistance, better sliding properties and a longer service life.

Application / areas of use:
  • Machining steels, case-hardening steels, tempered steels
  • Good to machine materials < 1000 N/mm² tensile strength
  • Graphite cast iron, malleable cast iron, Thermoplastics

With perfectly coordinated properties for better results:

The base material, which is produced using powder metallurgy (powder material) with an increased cobalt content, reduces microcracks on the tap and stabilises the cutting edges. The fine carbide and homogeneous microstructure also ensure higher wear and fracture resistance. Last but not least, the TiN coating reduces the roughness of the surface and thus increases the sliding properties of the tool.

Advantages: The taps can be used at higher cutting speeds, set-up and downtimes are reduced, and the service life and durability of the taps are extended. A tool that quickly pays for itself for every professional user.

In addition, the taps are (conditionally) suitable for thread cutting in unalloyed and alloyed steels with a tensile strength of < 1200 N/mm², rust- and acid-resistant steels (VA-steels) with a tensile strength of < 850 N/mm² and aluminium alloys (silicon content 0.5-10%).

The materials table contains some examples of application with material numbers and tensile strength which are suitable to cut with the VÖLKEL HSSE PM-TiN green ring machine taps.

Material number: The material number is a standardised, unique identifier for technical materials for a reliable identification. The material number consists of a main group number, separated by a dot from the four-digit grade number. The main group indicates the main material group (e.g. a 1 for steels). The subsequent grade number designates the exact material grade within the main group and also includes properties such as alloy type (chemical composition of the material).

Example (simply explained): 1.7223 (main group 1 = steel / grade number 7223 = alloyed heat-treatable steel) = This heat-treatable steel usually contains carbon (C), chromium (Cr) and molybdenum (Mo). The heat-treatable steel 41CrMo4 has a medium hardness and quality-threads can be cut with the HSSE PM-TiN tap very easy and acurate.
