Coloured ring taps
Precision, reliability and quick tool selection.
When cutting threads, you will only achieve high-quality results if the taps are optimally matched to the materials. VÖLKEL coloured ring taps have therefore been specially developed for machining specific material groups.
- Wide range of materials covered
- Higher productivity, longer tool life, better thread quality
- Easy identification of taps by application
Whether for stainless steel, free-cutting steel, tempered steels, aluminium, brass or cast iron... select the right tap from our material table now!

VÖLKEL HSSE Coloured ring taps
Every metal and every other material has its own specific physical and chemical properties. The differences arise, for example, from the alloy composition, tensile strength, formability, density or hardness of the material to be processed. These properties must be taken into account when selecting the right tap. The VÖLKEL Coloured ring series covers a majority of the most common materials. Simply select the material and the corresponding ring colour from the table:
| Material | Green ring | Green ring PM | Blue ring | White ring | Black ring | Yellow ring | Orange ring | Red ring |

⚠️ In order to obtain a high-quality thread, several other factors must be taken into account in addition to selecting the right tap.
- The exact property and condition of the material to be machined
- Selection of the correct machining parameters such as speed, feed rate, etc.
- Use of a coolant/lubricant suitable for the material
The legend and colour coding system for the colour ring taps are intended as a concise overview. You will find further information, specifications and corresponding application examples in the respective categories.
